Over the next three months the library is looking to expand its own chapter of the Bartow County Friends of the Library.

While the group’s responsibili-ties would include fundraisers, community projects and address-ing special needs of the Adairs-ville branch, its main purpose goes far beyond that.

“One of the main benefits is having people in the community actively making sure the library is serving its community,” said branch manager Becky Stiles.

The group is still in its infancy stages, but Ms. Stiles said she already has a few projects that she’d like to see helmed by the Friends of the Library.

“Different friends groups have different purposes,” Ms. Stiles said. “We hope the Adairsville Friends of the Library will help with additional needs not funded through the regular budget.”

Some of those needs include improving the library’s landscap-ing, adding to the children’s book section, raising funds for special book collections and building outside pavilion for patrons.

“We serve a unique population here in Adairsville and we hope Friends of the Library will help us better serve them,” Ms. Stiles said.

Interested patrons are invited to join the group. Membership fees are $10 for individuals and $15 for families.

The branch would fall under the umbrella of the Bartow County Friends of the Library, but any and all proceeds collected would be used expressly for the Adairsville chapter.

The library already provides, among other things, WIFI inter-net access, reading materials and special activities, but the Friends of the Library would afford more opportunities to integrate the library with its surrounding community.

Between July and August the library averaged more than 4,000 patrons a month. Ms. Stiles hopes to build Adairsville’s friend’s network.

“I think we have a large com-munity to serve and there’s al-ways more that we can do,” Ms. Stiles said.
