For the third year in a row, the Eagles Landing Christian Lady Chargers have dominated class A softball, claiming yet another state title.

“The girls played hard,” said coach Stan Burton. “They have a passion for the game.”

This was also the third time the Lady Chargers had to battle Gorden Lee from the losers’ bracket to capture the title.

With just three seniors, the Lady Chargers will look to continue the dynasty of domination into the future.

Returning playmakers include Julia Echols, Symone Ball and Kacie Patterson.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum in AAAAA, Luella and Union Grove made it to the state sectionals.

Luella and Union Grove both lost their first games in the tournament, to Northside-Warner Robins and Lowndes, respectively.

While Luella fought into the second round of the losers’ bracket before being knocked out by Chapel Hill, Union Grove rallied, successfully taking on Mundy’s Mill, Newnan, Chapel Hill and Northside-Warner Robins to earn a spot in the Elite Eight.

Although the Lady Wolverines weren’t able to score more wins once they got to the Elite Eight, they finished the season among the state’s best teams having started the season with rebuilding in mind.

“We were very young and inexperienced going in,” said coach Brian DeBerry. “We’ve gotten a lot better as the year has progressed.”

This season, Henry County was able to boast representative teams in all five classifications of the state softball tournament.

In the AAAA sectionals, Stockbridge lost to Evans in the opening game, before losing to Evans County.

Although Ola captured the region championship, the Lady Mustangs were unable to keep that success going.

Ola defeated Lakeside-Evans in the opening round, only to run into a pair of tough losses from Hardaway and Effingham County, knocking the Lady Mustangs out of the tournament.

Woodland made its first foray into state competition with an appearance in the AAA state tournament. The Wolfpack defeated West Laurens to begin its tournament run, only to lose to Columbus, then Worth County, ending the season for Woodland.

In AA, Henry County High School followed up an opening loss to Vidalia, by defeating Thomasville.

The Lady War Hawks remained in the tournament for just one more round, eventually losing to Pierce County.
