Bartow County voters say “yes” to Sunday sales, incumbents

The issue first came before the Cartersville City Council back in August. City Council had the power to take the issue to voters via a resolution, which it approved in September.

Voters across the county voted in favor of the referendum by a vote of 59.39 percent to 40.61 percent.

Mayor Matt Santini and City Council will meet with the Alcohol Control Board today at 10 a.m. in Council chambers to discuss the specifics of the new ordiance.

The election overall contained few surprises as most incumbents retained their seats handily. About 71 percent of the registered 50,989 voters in Bartow County turned out for the election.

Phil Gingrey, U.S. House received 72,88 percent of the votes. Gingrey attributes his win soley to the citizens of Bartow County.

“I am honored that the people of Bartow County have expressed their support and confidence in me by allowing me to represent them for another term in Washington,” Gingrey said. “I believe the candidates that won and won handily in Bartow County did so because they embraced a message of limited government and the defense of our traditional values. I believe these principles are very important to the citizens of Bartow County, and they judge their candidates accordingly.

Other winners from the General Election include: Bill Heath, State Senate, who received 64.14 percent of the votes; Barry Loudermilk, who received 74.95 percent of the votes; Clark Millsap, who received 67.19 percent of the votes; and Clarence Brown, who received 68.90 percent of the votes.

Preston Smith, Paul Battles, Tom Graves, Joe Campbell, Gary Bell, Valenda Bailey, Joel Guyton, Thomas Mosely, Daniel Baker, Wanda Gray and Larry Parker ran unopposed.
