Cities’ governing boards throughout DeKalb will have elected seats up for grabs this year.

Qualifying for local elections is from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4, according to the DeKalb County Office of Voter Registration and Elections, which will conduct the elections.

Election day is slated for Nov. 3.

Here is a list of seats residents will see on their ballots:

Avondale Estates

The two city commission seats held by Sandra Varian and Lyda Stedman will be up for grabs this year in the city of Avondale Estates.

Though no one has pre-filed to run for election, City Manager Clai Brown said the two commissioners have said they will not seek re-election to the positions which are four-year terms.

“It could change but that’s where it stands right now,” he said.

Ms. Varian has held her seat since 2001, while Ms. Stedman was elected in 2005.

Chamblee

The city of Chamblee has three seats up for grabs this year.

Seats include: mayor, held by Eric Clarkson; District 1, held by Mark Wedge, and an at-large seat held by Scott Taylor.

All three are ending their first terms in their respective seats.

Decatur

In the city of Decatur, the terms of District 1 Commissioner Fred Boykin and District 2 Commissioner Mary Alice Kemp expire this year.

Boykin, a 30-year Decatur resident and Ms. Kemp have held their respective seats since 2001.

Doraville

Doraville will have three seats available on election day — the District 1 seat held by Donna Pittman, the District 2 seat held by Brain Bates and Robert Spangler’s District 3 seat.

Dunwoody

The District 1 seat held by Denis Shortal, the District 2 seat held by Adrian Bonser and Tom Taylor’s District 3 seat will be up for grabs this year in the city of Dunwoody.

All three city council members were first elected last year after the city’s incorporation.

Pine Lake

In Pine Lake, Kathie Denob’s District 3 seat, Brent Walker’s District 4 seat and the District 5 seat held by Melanie Hannat will be available.

Stone Mountain

Mayor Gary Peet’s office and the three council seats held by Steve Higgins, Susan Coletti and Sharon Frierson will be up for election this year in Stone Mountain.
