With farmers markets operating throughout the county, DeKalb residents will have a chance to purchase fresh produce straight from the source.
“I love the market,” Dunwoody resident and personal chef Rosemary Rutland said of the Dunwoody Green Market, which operates every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon on Dunwoody Village Parkway near the Dunwoody Post Office.
“You get the freshest produce possible, plus I make relationships with the farmers,” Ms. Rutland added. “I can call them and see if they have something I need.”
The Dunwoody Green Market has been operating for five years. The producer-only market currently has 18 vendors selling everything from fresh vegetables to homemade breads and pastries.
The market was organized by farmer Corinna Garmon, who travels from her family’s Whitesburg-based farm to Dunwoody each week to sell chicken and duck eggs, blueberries, squash, cucumbers and a variety of greens.
“Atlanta didn’t have a good mid-week market and farmers have produce mid week,” Ms. Garmon said of why she started the market. “And it has grown so much that this is the only market I do now.”
Another market that operates in DeKalb County is the Emory Farmers Market.
The market is open each Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the Cox Hall bridge on Emory University’s main campus.
“We feel like this is a really good service for Emory and the surrounding community,” Emory Farmers Market Manager Julie Shaffer said. “This provides fresh homegrown food to people.”
The market is not as big as the Dunwoody market; however, the Emory Farmers Market has seven vendors who produce and sell vegetables and fruits, homemade cheese, breads and a variety of jams and jellies.
Emory University is at 201 Dowman Drive in Atlanta.
The market will operate each Tuesday through November from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Dunwoody Green Market will operate each Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon also through November.
