Agnes Scott College has teamed with Eddie’s Attic to provide another, larger venue for concerts near downtown Decatur.

Scheduled to begin in February, the “Eddie and Agnes” concert series will bring 10 to 12 performers to Decatur next year. But the shows will not be in Eddie’s Attic’s 150-seat venue on the Decatur Square — the concerts will be in Agnes Scott’s 817-seat Pressor Hall Auditorium.

“I love this venue,” said Eddie and Agnes concert series director Daren Wang, who also serves as executive director of the annual Decatur Book Festival. “There is not a bad seat in the house, the acoustics are good and there’s free parking.”

The partnership got its roots during the 2009 Decatur Book Festival.

Wang worked with Eddie’s Attic founder and manager Eddie Owen to book country musician Mary Chapin Carpenter and other acts for a Eudora Welty Tribute Concert in September at Agnes Scott.

“[Eddie] is a legend in a lot of ways,” Wang said. “It made sense to work with him to do something like this.”

Wang will work with Owen to book and promote acts.

He said he was working on scheduling the performances and could not comment on what acts would be a part of the series.

For Agnes Scott, the concerts help serve the college’s mission of opening its doors to the community.

“It’s part of the college’s mission to invite Decatur, Atlanta and DeKalb County to our campus,” said Michelle Hall, who serves as the associate vice president for student life and community relations for Agnes Scott College. “This will bring a lot of people to campus and expose our students to different types of music.”

The partnership will allow Agnes Scott to sell tickets to its students at discounted prices.

Just because Agnes Scott is working with a concert venue does not mean the college will become a nightclub. No food or drinks will be allowed in the auditorium or sold in the lobby.

“We hope people will walk across the street and eat in Decatur before or after the show,” Ms. Hall said.
