The original DeKalb super conference was gutted when the Georgia High School Association went to six classifications for this season.

For the past two seasons, Region 6AAAA was the conference with a majority of teams from the DeKalb County Schools System. The reclassification effort left Marist as the only playoff team from the region to stay put. And the region is now split into essentially schools in the northern part of the metro area and schools in the southern part of the metro area.

Projected Order of Finish:
1. Marist
2. Stone Mountain
3. Columbia
4. Redan
5. Chamblee
6. Lithonia

CHAMBLEE BULLDOGS
Coach: Allen Johnson (East Tennessee State); 1st season (0-0)
2011 Record: 4-6
Starters Returning: 5 (offense), 6 (defense)
Top Returning Players: Sr. QB Jordan Branch, 6-0/175; Sr. FB Dezmin Reed, 6-1/220; Sr. OL/DL James Hanley, 6-2/230; Sr. OL/DL Kamren Mack, 6-2/225; Sr. WR Isaac Mitchell, 5-10/160; Sr. DE Davin Bellamy, 6-4/225; Sr. LB Charlie Bleichner, 5-10/170; Jr. LB D.J. Fambro, 5-10/180; Jr. DB Matt Simon, 5-9/165; Sr. DB Caleb Desamours, 5-8/165; Sr. Brandon Webster, 5-8/170.

Season Outlook: The Bulldogs have a new head coach, but have the benefit of half of the team’s starters from a season ago coming back.

Chamblee was a playoff contender for most of the latter half of the 2000s, but the Bulldogs were not able to keep that winning going as the team entered this decade. The Bulldogs will now turn to a Chamblee graduate to get the team back on track.

Starters Returning: 5 (offense), 5 (defense)
Top Returning Players: Sr. QB Myles Willis, Sr. RB Gray King, Sr. FB Jason Morris, Sr. OL/DL Steven Wallace, Sr. LB/TE Greg Taboada

Season Outlook: The War Eagles should fly to the top of at least the sub region and grab the No. 1 seed in Region 6AAAA for the first time since losing to Tucker in the Class AAAA state championship game in 2008.

Aug. 31: at Clarke Central
Sept. 7: vs. Thomas County Central

REDAN RAIDERS
Coach: Willie Griffieth (Berry); 2nd season (5-5 in 2002)
2011 Record: 3-7
Starters Returning: 2 (offense), 2 (defense)
Top Returning Players: Sr. RB Cameron Black, 5-10/180; Sr. DB Kaleel Hassan, 5-11/175; Jr. OL/LB Keishan Heath, 5-11/215; Sr. K/LB Deion Reed, 5-11/175; Sr. LB Alonso Williams, 5-7/200; Sr. WR Raymond Trapp, 6-0/170; Sr. QB/TE Tyler Layton, 6-2/230; Sr. RB/DB Terence McKibben, 5-7/150.

Season Outlook: Griffieth led the Raiders to a 5-5 record in 2002. Griffieth has been a track coach at the school since that time. He stepped in when the Raiders needed a head coach. He takes the reins of a team that can essentially start over after a 3-7 season.

STONE MOUNTAIN PIRATES
Coach: Dante Ferguson (Vanderbilt); 4th season (19-10-1)
2011 Record: 8-2
Starters Returning: 4 (offense), 3 (defense)
Top Returning Players: Jr. QB Corderal Cook, 6-1/205; Sr. FB/LB Solomon Parker, 6-2/250; Jr. RB/DB Jordan Collier, 5-10/197; Sr. OL/DL Jaquez Knolton, 6-2/255; Sr. OL/DL Coy Reliford, 6-1/245; Jr. OL/DL Jason Lubin, 5-10/235; Jr. DB/WR Raymone Jennings, 5-10/182; Sr. DB/RB Travis Hector, 5-9/186; Sr. OL/DL Rasheed Olayiwola, 6-1/215; Sr. LB Jordan Jones, 6-1/205.

Season Outlook: There are not many teams that go 8-2 during the regular season and do not at least get a shot at the postseason. Stone Mountain did just that last year.

The Pirates lost a lot of talented seniors last season, but Ferguson seems to be able to get the best out of his players no matter what.

Stone Mountain will have work to do to take down Marist, but the team should be the No. 2 seed out of Division A when it comes time for the play-in games.

Schedule:
Aug. 24: at Greater Atlanta Christian
Aug. 31: vs. North Atlanta (Avondale)
Sept. 14: vs. Wesleyan (Avondale)

Oct. 5: at Lithonia (Panthersville)
Oct. 13: vs. Redan (HC) (Avondale)
Oct. 19: vs. Chamblee (Adams)
Oct. 26: at Marist
Nov. 2: at Columbia (Adams)
Nov. 9: Region Play-In Game
