Head coach Zack Cook said the players are working hard together to build their confidence prior to jumping into region play. Of all the players, Aaron King stood out for his efforts.
King is a junior and plays at the catcher position for the Patriots. King is a returning starter from last season.
According to Cook, King is a player who is a pleasure to coach, has a lot of great qualities in a baseball player and loves the game.
“He’s the best hitter we’ve got and the leader of the team,” said Cook.
After five games, King had nine RBIs and is hitting at .394.
King’s best game this season, according to Cook, was the season opener against Haralson County on Feb. 21. That night King had two doubles, one single and three RBIs.
As a leader, King is the type that leads by example, but Cook said he hopes King will develop into more of a vocal leader.
While he doess not yell, Cook said King is not afraid to let the other guys know when they are wrong.
“He holds everyone accountable and he has to get in their ear at times,” Cook said.
Cook also described King as hard working and having great intensity in his play.
“If every guy on the team had his intensity, we would have no problems,” said Cook.
