One player who contributed to these wins and has made a big impact on the team throughout the season is Deanna Dorsey.
At 5-foot-9, Dorsey is a junior at Alexander, playing center or forward.
Head coach Marcy Camp describes Dorsey as “a fantastic team player.”
Camp said she is a hard worker, asks questions when necessary and helps her team as much as possible.
She also said Dorsey is self-disciplined and will do what is needed to get the job done, even if it isn’t the most fun task on the court.
As a transfer student from Metter High School, Dorsey began playing basketball at Alexander last season on both JV and varsity. According to Camp, Dorsey formerly was shy and timid but has become more of a force for the team.
“We worked with her last year and sent her to camp this summer. She worked really hard in the offseason and every day at practice,” said Camp.
This season, Dorsey currently averages six points, eight rebounds and more than one steal a night. But Camp said “her stats do not do her justice.”
“She is a great defensive presence inside and bumps around with some of the best posts in the area and most the time she shuts them down,” said Camp.
