The Paulding County Spring Players of the Year have been announced and among these athletes is rising senior Monica Behrle.

Playing for the East Paulding girls’ tennis team, Behrle was given the Player of the Year award for girls’ tennis for the second year in a row.

“It feels very honorable to think that people voted for me. It’s exciting,” Behrle said.

Behrle began playing tennis at the age of 4 and has been the first singles player on varsity for the Raiders since she was a freshman.

As a junior, Behrle finished the regular season with an 11-1 record, 4-0 in the postseason. Her high school career record is 40-6 and she is undefeated in the county.

Next season, as a senior, Behrle will be the captain of the Lady Raiders’ tennis team.

Behrle said her most memorable tennis moment with East Paulding was when the team defeated their rivals, North Paulding, 3-2 on March 13, for the first time ever. The deciding match Behrle said lasted three hours and 40 minutes.

Along with playing for East Paulding, Behrle trains and competes with the United States Tennis Association in the U18 category with Coach Rohman Mitchell. She has trained with USTA since she was 9, competing in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Behrle is hoping to get a scholarship to play tennis at the college level soon. She is currently narrowing down her search for schools, but there is one school she said she loves and really wants to attend.
