South Paulding’s young volleyball squad had a 5-4 record last week with junior middle blocker Payton Seay leading the team in stats.

After their games against Chapel Hill and Villa Rica on Aug. 29, Seay had 41 kills with a 42 percent success rate, 16 blocks with a 50 percent pass rate, 41 points and 19 aces.

Head coach Shannon Wannemacher said, “Payton is the center of the team and tries to defend the net to the best of her ability. She is talented and is able to make amazing plays and make it look like nothing at all.”

Wannemacher described Seay as a powerful player with a very strong arm and the ability to hit and serve hard and consistently.

While Seay may be the top statistical player on the team, Wannemacher said she constantly works on her game and is happy for her teammates’ success as well.

“She knows that no player is perfect and works every day to make herself a better player. Although she is very talented, Payton is a humble young lady. She defers to her teammates when necessary and is just as happy for their successes as she is for hers,” said Wannemacher.

This far, Seay’s most memorable moment, according to Wannemacher, was “getting an amazing block against a great hitter from North Paulding” in their only straight-set loss of the season on Aug 20.
