The New Manchester Jaguars defeated the Paulding County High School Patriots 23-20 in the season opener on Aug. 24.

Not only did New Manchester win the first game of the season, but they obtained their very first region victory, making the school’s history book.

One player who made a big difference in that win was Ronnie Hall.

The senior fullback is one of the returning starters for New Manchester this season. In 2011, the Jaguars’ inaugural season, Hall rushed for more than 1,000 yards, gaining some good stats even though his team had no chance of going to the playoffs as they were not playing a region schedule.

In the game against the Patriots, Hall had 16 carries on the night for 128 yards. One of those carries totaled 33 yards and went straight to the end zone, putting the Jags up 16-8 after the extra point cleared.

Head football coach Rob Cleveland said Hall did exactly what the team needed him to do that night.

“He just had a good night all around. He held on to the ball like we needed him to do and he had lots of steady looks,” Cleveland said.

Those looks helped keep the Jaguars in the game because they did not put the first points on the scoreboard that night.

“We don’t have many seniors this year so my leadership on the field is very important. We really have to play as a team this year to win,” Hall said.
