South Paulding’s Kahliyah Smith finished fifth in the finals of the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 12.33 seconds. Fellow Spartan Erika Earwood finished in the top half of the results table in the shot put, throwing for a distance of more than 30 meters.
Jinni Pethel of Hiram was the highest county finisher in the 1600-meter run with a recorded time of 5:33.96, good enough for 16th in the state. North Paulding’s Natalie Coolidge earned 14th in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:12.15.
Other athletes that performed in the preliminary rounds at the state meet included Hiram’s Breondra Stelle in the high jump, East Paulding’s Allyssa Sheffield and Paulding County’s Lexi Geiger in the 1600-meter run. Tionna Fant from South Paulding also ran in the 400-meter dash.
Overall as a team, Hiram placed 33rd overall while South Paulding placed one spot behind.
The association also announced its qualifiers for the boys’ state meet that will be at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson Thursday through Saturday. Representing East Paulding in the shot put will be Connor Christian while Jacob Robinson (3200-meter run) and Eli Saucier (400-meter dash) have qualified for Hiram.
For North Paulding, Bradley Graham will be in the pole vault competition and Seth Whitener qualified for the discus throw. The 4x100 meter relay team of Loubert Aris, Meshach Mays, DJ Owens and Qua Stocks are in the state meet as well.
Two Paulding County High School runners Ahmad Grey (110-meter hurdles) and Nicholas Miller (800-meter run) will represent the Patriots at the meet.
South Paulding qualified its 4x400-meter relay team, a squad that includes Aaron Jones who will also run in the 100-meter and 200-meter individual events.
