New Manchester had a strong performance as a team as the Jaguars finished fourth in the Class 5A competition. Junior Anika Carter finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.20 seconds. She also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash. Senior Niata Alexander earned second in the 200-meter event on a time of 24.75 seconds and the 400-meter dash at 56.73.
The Jaguars’ 4x100-meter relay team, which included Kiara Slay, Jhordynn Datcher, Ashley Germany along with Carter and Alexander finished second at the meet. The 4x400-meter relay team which included Sabria Wooten and Tahaira Dancy in the rotation earned third in the race. Yamara Robinson finished third in the triple jump and 11th in the long jump.
In the 4A meet, the Alexander Cougars placed seventh in the team competition. Senior Remel Robinson finished fourth in the 100-meter dash at 12.12 seconds and fifth in the 200-meter dash at a time of 25.25. Chloe Camp earned sixth in the 3200-meter run while Bailey Baggett and Taylor McLendon got second and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault.
Chapel Hill finished 12th in Class 3A highlighted by Angel Amadi getting fourth in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash. Aliyah Sangster also placed sixth in the 200-meter event. Kendria Edoward finished seventh in the 400-meter dash. The 4x100-meter relay unit of Shelethia McDaniel, Dejae Daniels, Kayla Meek along with Amadi, Sangster and Edoward placed third with a time of 49.05 seconds.
Landmark Christian earned second place in the Class 1A-Private competition behind the efforts of Douglasville native Kathryn Foreman, who placed second in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races respectively.
The GHSA boys’ state meet will be at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson Thursday through Saturday.
