Now, after two top 10 finishes in the restaurant chain’s international beauty pageant, modeling jobs and a few minor roles in TV and movies, the now 22-year-old has a speaking role in a key scene in the new movie “Blended,” starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
The scene featured Sandler’s and Barrymore’s characters on a first date. Producers, including Sandler, used the Hooters restaurant in Lawrenceville as the movie set, and the scene featured Pike and two other real-life Hooters waitresses serving them food.
The scene took most of a day to complete, Pike said.
“Working on-set was a great experience. They were really nice,” she said. “[Sandler] is his own producer, also, so it was really cool seeing him speaking and telling us what to do and changing the set around, and acting at the same time.”
Pike recalled the two stars treated their fellow cast members very well. At one point, she accidentally spilled water on her shirt and the bright lights visibly showed water spots. Sandler kidded her about it, she said.
“They had all these fans and they tried to fan me off, and [Sandler] said, ‘Oh, my gosh, you’re such a troublemaker,’” she said, laughing.
Barrymore, meanwhile, often asked Pike and other cast members if they needed drinking water or food or other refreshments during the lengthy shooting.
“She was real sweet,” Pike said.
She also estimated the scene took about 20 takes to complete.
“There was a big scene where they had to re-enact [Barrymore] spitting out some food because it was too hot,” she said. “They had to do it over and over again.”
Pike is a Cobb County native and a Woodstock High School graduate. She also is a student at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, with a goal of becoming a marine biologist.
“I always want to have a backup plan, no matter what, so I’m taking core classes,” she said. “I want to work with dolphins.”
However, her main emphasis now is her active modeling and burgeoning acting careers.
After competing in Hooters-sponsored pageants in Las Vegas and Miami while waitressing at the Hiram location, modeling offers came her way.
Hooters assisted her with modeling training and dealing with the media, leading to her appearances in commercials and on such shows as “Fox and Friends” in New York, she said.
She recently returned from Las Vegas where she competed in an event hosted by the TropicBeauty model search company, and is considering some opportunities in the Atlanta area, Pike said.
“It definitely got me a foot in the door in modeling,” she said of Hooters.
Pike’s acting work has included roles in the TV show “Drop Dead Diva” and the movie “Last Vegas,” starring Robert DeNiro and Morgan Freeman.
However, she still works at the Hiram restaurant about twice a month, she said.
Though she knows she will eventually leave the job, she said it will be difficult because of the relationships she developed and friends she made in the three years she spent there.
“It’ll be very, very hard,” she said. "I don’t want to leave yet. There’s so many good things they do for me there.”
