The early questions have been answered as Chapel Hill has won its first two contests of this season behind junior forward Alex Weems.
After averaging only four points and four rebounds last season in 25 games, Weems has elevated her game to another level for the Panthers. In Chapel Hill’s win over Villa Rica on Nov. 16, she scored a game-high 23 points and made eight out of nine shot attempts. Weems also added 12 rebounds in the victory. Against Newnan on Nov. 23, she once again had a game-high with 18 points and three rebounds as the Panthers won 69-61.
“Alex has had some strong games for us and it shows me what she’s capable of doing this season,” Chapel Hill head coach Christopher Long said.
Weems is part of a group of Panthers’ players who have returned into the starting lineup from last season and taken on additional roles.
“The returning starters played key roles in what we did last season,” Long said. “They bring back experience and leadership to teach the younger girls what it takes.”
The Panthers will return to action on Friday at Jackson-Atlanta.
