The Chapel Hill football team has recovered from a rough start to the 2013 season to earn three wins in their last four contests, placing them third in Region 4-AAA. This puts the Panthers firmly in position to make the postseason and the emergence of sophomore running back Jamarcus Morrissette has been a significant factor in the equation.

In Chapel Hill’s 17-14 victory over Douglass on Oct. 11, Morrissette had 25 carries for 233 yards and five touchdowns.

“We started the game slowly but had a strong finish,” Morrissette said. “The offensive line blocked well for me, we had good pace and beat a very good team.”

Morrissette’s next contest was just as impressive, finishing with 385 yards and four touchdowns on 56 carries in the Panthers’ 38-28 win over B.E.S.T Academy on Oct. 18.

“Jamarcus has become our go-to guy,” head coach Geoff Pastrick said. “He’s proven that he can carry the ball, gotten better in each game and doesn’t have turnovers.”

All three Chapel Hill wins this season are in region play, increasing the chances of it making the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

“Our goal is to make the postseason one game at a time and take care of business,” Pastrick said.

Morrissette is a member of the youth organization Manhood and plans to major in mechanical engineering while in college.
