Senior forward Josh Hood of Hiram High School has been one of the most consistent boys’ basketball players in Paulding County this season, averaging 11.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per contest for the Hornets. His efforts have helped the team finish in the top half of the region 5-AAAAA standings heading into the region tournament this week.

“Josh is a hard-working student who has made major strides since freshman year,” head coach Darius Hodge said. “He’s a leader on and off the court.”

“The season has gone well for us and we’re working hard in every practice to play well in the region tournament and make the state playoffs,” Hood said. “We’re looking to dominate.”

Hood also knows that his experience has been crucial to the success of the Hornets’ this season.

“As a leader, I’ve told my teammates to play in their roles, get the ball to the right people and focus on getting the win,” he said.

Off the court, Hood recently finished a stint with the Georgia Stunners AAU team based in Douglasville. He also works with children at his mother’s child daycare center, focusing on electronics. Hood plans to major in computer applications upon entering college.

“My entire family has been involved with computers and it’s something that I’ve become interested in,” Hood said.

The Hornets will open the region tournament this week.
