The East Paulding baseball team has returned to the state playoffs for the third consecutive season and the 10th time in the past 13 seasons. After a difficult start to the year in non-region action, the Raiders rebounded to win 10 of their last 14 regular season contests behind senior Mitchell Webb, who has had a stellar campaign as a third baseman and pitcher.

“We had a shaky start to the season but we finished up strong with some younger players filling in some key spots in the lineup,” Webb said.

The right-hander finished the regular season with a batting average of .405 with seven home runs while playing strong defense for East Paulding.

He was also solid on the mound for the Raiders with the season highlight being a no-hitter thrown against Hiram in a 4-0 victory March 19.

“I worked hard in practice every day to get better and become the player I needed to be for the team’s success,” Webb said.

“I tried to set a good example for the younger players.”

The Raiders won their first-round series against Sprayberry, advancing to face Stephenson on Wednesday.

“I’ve enjoyed my four years on the varsity team and it’s meant a lot representing East Paulding,” Webb said.

Webb also played for the Raiders’ football team and was a member of DECA, a marketing club in the school. He will play for the East Cobb Yankees baseball team this summer.
