Senior Alexander girls’ basketball player Molly Brown has developed into one of the top players in Douglas, averaging a team-high 15 points, 10 rebounds along with nearly four assists and three rebounds for a Cougars’ squad that has already amassed three wins this season though Dec. 19 after gaining only eight victories last year.

“Molly is a leader on and off the court,” head coach Adam Watts said. “She’s vocal and has strong character.”

Brown’s offensive output has increased throughout the season, posting a season-high 23 points in Alexander’s victory over New Manchester on Dec. 14 and 22 points in a win over Troup County on Dec. 17.

“I’ve focused on our performance as a team and where I fit within that,” Brown said. “We’re adjusted well to coach Watts and gotten more comfortable with the system that we’re running because everyone is learning their role.”

Brown has played for the Georgia Metros AAU team based in Atlanta. She’s also a member of the Beta Club, Key Club and National Honors Society at Alexander. She has also done community service with the Special Olympics.

She plans to pursue a career in coaching or as an athletic trainer. The Cougars will return to action on Dec. 31 at home against Chapel Hill in a non-region contest.
