Lithia Springs senior guard Myles Howard has seen his role with the boys’ basketball team evolve throughout his four years on the varsity squad.

“I played a few minutes per game in ninth grade and came off the bench as a spot-up shooter during my 10th-grade season,” Howard said.

“I handled the ball more during junior year and this season been able to score more while becoming more active on defense.”

Howard leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per contest.

“Myles is a great scorer who knows what to expect on the court and is a competitor,” head coach J.W. Cantrell said.

Howard scored a season-high 33 points in the Lions’ 74-69 win over Clarkston on Dec. 21 and has paced the Lions offense to an average of 64.1 points per contest which ranks among the top teams in the county.

“We’ve been able to run the floor well and get in open spots,” Howard said. “My teammates have helped me get open by setting screens.”

Howard is a member of the National Honor Society and the Math Honor Society. In college, he plans to major in pre-medicine to pursue a career as a surgeon.

“I want to assist people in need,” Howard said.

The Lions return to action on Friday at home against Hiram.
