North Paulding swimmer Stephanie Peters concluded one of the most successful prep careers in Georgia history by winning two state championships at the Georgia High School Swimming and Diving Championships on Feb. 8 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

The Georgia Bulldogs-commit won the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 1:49.50, more than one second faster than second-place finisher Brittany Creasy of Creekview. The senior also defended her state title by notching a victory in the 500-yard freestyle race for the second consecutive year, finishing with a time of 4:54.30, more than two seconds faster than Isabella Issa of Westminster, who finished second.

“Stephanie isn’t only a strong swimmer with natural ability, she’s a team player by helping new swimmers and demonstrating proper techniques and support during practices,” Paulding head swim coach Kaitlin Woods said about her star swimmer earlier this season.

Four years ago, Peters was one of five North Paulding swimmers that comprised the entire roster of county athletes participating in swimming at the high school level. This past season, the county had 52 swimmers and 24 individuals who qualified for the state meet.

The upperclassman is a member of the Student Government Association and National Honor Society. She will join her sister, Courtney Peters, at Georgia this upcoming fall and plans to major in animal science and minor in nutrition.
