The sophomore plays multiple positions for Alexander including center back, forward and occasionally midfielder.
“I love playing defense because it controls the tempo of the entire game for our team,” Hawkins said. “I like having that responsibility.”
Hawkins has emerged in her second season on the varsity team as a veteran.
“I’ve become more patient while taking the experiences of my older teammates and built on them,” she said.
Head coach David Huynh said Hawkins is “a great distributor on the field and a key to the success of the team.”
Hawkins, who also plays for the Southern Soccer Academy club team in Atlanta, has taken on a leadership role with the Cougars.
“I like to encourage my teammates and build them up because I won’t settle for anything less than perfection and there’s always something we can work on,” Hawkins said. “We made the second round of the playoffs last year and plan to go further this year.”
Hawkins is a member of the International Club at Alexander and plans to major in biomechanical engineering in college before pursuing a career as a professional soccer player.
Alexander returns to action Friday at Hiram.
