The Alexander football program has finished one of its best seasons in history, returning to the postseason for the first time since 1997 which was also the last time it won eight games in a season and had a winning record. The Cougars won two road playoff games against Dalton and Lanier with senior outside linebacker Taylor Schartle serving as a major catalyst throughout the year.

Schartle became one of the most productive defenders in Georgia, finishing the year with a team-high 126 tackles, seven of which were for a loss of yards. He had double-digit tackles in seven contests this year, including a team-high 22 against Troup County on Sept. 26. Against Dalton, Schartle had a season-high four tackles for loss in the playoff win.

Schartle began attending Alexander during his sophomore year and quickly joined the football team, playing for the Cougars three years and saw the growth of the program first-hand.

“We worked hard on and off the field starting in January and it was a big team effort,” Schartle said. “We refused to lose and tried to prove everyone wrong by believing in ourselves.”

Outside of Alexander, Schartle is part of the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy. He plans to continue to play football at the collegiate level, planning to major in kinesiology and possibly pursuing a career in coaching athletics upon graduation.
