New Manchester’s Terrence Jenkins brought home the school’s first-ever state championships at the Georgia High School Association Boys’ State Meet May 10 in Jefferson. The senior won two individual events, the 110-meter hurdles on a time of 14.44 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles at 38.75 seconds. His efforts helped lead the Jaguars to a fourth-place team finish in Class 5A.

“I didn’t do well at the state event as a junior and I wanted to come back this year healthy and ready to win,” Jenkins said. “I worked on my technique over the hurdles and conditioning during this season to prepare for the competition.”

Jenkins’ victories have brought pride to the New Manchester community.

“It means a lot to us because this puts New Manchester out there athletically through Georgia,” Jenkins said. “Our team won many meets this season, including region, and had many accomplishments.”

Jenkins went undefeated in the 300-meter hurdles this year for the Jaguars and also runs for the Atlanta-based Quicksilver Track Club out of Atlanta. He will compete for the club at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor which takes place in Greensboro, N.C., from June 13 to 15. Jenkins plans to major in biology upon entering college this fall.
