In celebration of Chorus Master Walter Huff’s 25th anniversary year with the Atlanta Opera, the 2014-15 season will open in September with three concerts of choral masterpieces featuring works that span across 300 years of the operatic repertoire.
Performances will take place at four metro Atlanta venues including the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre near Vinings, Emory University’s Schwartz Center in DeKalb County and Kennesaw State University’s Bailey Performance Center in Cobb County. Subscriptions to the mainstage season of three operas at the centre along with tickets to the additional productions at other venues are available.
The mainstage season at centre will feature a new co-production of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” a new production of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” and a revival of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro.” In addition to the Choral Silver Celebration, which will have performances at Emory and Kennesaw State, the season will include the Southeastern premiere of American composer Jake Heggie’s “Three Decembers” at a venue to be announced.
“I am especially excited to introduce this season, because it represents the foundation of our vision for the future of opera in Atlanta,” Zvulun said. “We have great plans to expand the repertoire with fresh interpretations of well-loved masterpieces co-produced with leading opera companies from around the country and new works created in collaboration with key Atlanta arts organizations. Most importantly, we will attract to Atlanta leading singers, conductors, directors and designers from around the world.”
