The heyday of the 2012 General Primary Election in South Fulton has come to end and the fate of Board of Education seats decided.

Only two Board of Education seats in the South Fulton area were up for re-election: District 3 and 4.

Incumbent Gail Dean was the winner of the District 3 seat, clinching 7,835 votes of the total 7,909 cast.

There were 74 write-in votes which accounted for .94 percent of the sway in Dean’s direction.

The race for the District 4 seat was ripe with competition, with four candidates, including Incumbent Linda Bryant, Retina Burton, Anna Croley and Paula J. Ward.

Bryant far exceeded the votes received by any other candidate with 7,066 votes, 60.46 percent of the total 11,687 cast.

Bryant was followed by Ward who earned 1,978 votes, 16.92 percent of total votes cast.

Write-in votes were few, with only 30 cast, contributing .26 percent of the total votes.

Because of the board of education elections are non-partisan, as long as a runoff is not required, the elections are decided during the general primary.

Alicia Philips, a spokesperson for Fulton County, said she heard nothing but positive things from the Fulton County Registrations and Elections department, throughout July 31.

There are a total of 348 precincts in the Fulton area.

A total of 144,152 ballots were cast on July 31 throughout Fulton County, only 26 percent of the 546,683 registered voters.
