The Brookhaven Arts Alliance is prepping for a pair of signature events slated to kick off during the fall.

First up is the entity’s participation in the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival, held in October.

Brookhaven Arts is scheduled to do its part by organizing two “pop-up” galleries, each showcasing works that fit a particular theme. The juried exhibits are orchestrated by professional and amateur shutterbugs alike.

POUR Bistro and Loving Local Artist Boutique and Gallery, both located on Dresden Drive, will serve as the aforementioned exhibition venues during business hours. The former will display works adhering to a black and white photography theme, whereas the latter will showcase camera phone photos, said Brookhaven Arts Alliance Executive Director Gretchen Roberts.

“The exhibits will be available to everybody,” Roberts said. “There will be a nice variety to look at … definitely worth coming out for.”

The gallery sites will also play host to respective opening receptions Sept. 29 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The benefits of such opportunities for “desperately needed” exposure for the alliance ultimately reach beyond the eight-year-old entity, Roberts said.

“Last year, the [community] response was great … I’m hoping the overall turnout throughout the month will be better,” she said. “It’s a great way to market everybody. I’m hoping that this not only gives us some exposure, but shows people who may not be aware of all the things that Brookhaven has to offer.”

Next up on the alliance’s agenda is the annual Brookhaven Arts Festival, set to be held on Apple Valley Road behind the Brookhaven MARTA Station Oct. 20 and 21.

“We have a lot of up-and-coming artists that join us every year,” Roberts said.

In addition to the wares of the 100-plus juried artists that flock to the event, organizers are looking to incorporate a music festival featuring an eclectic mix of stylings — from classic rock to blues and bluegrass.

Local artist Larry Smith has been bestowed the annual honor of designing the 2012 Brookhaven Art fest’s commemorative poster.

The Brookhaven Arts Alliance — a partnership of artists, merchants, residents and government — was founded in 2004.

The nonprofit aims to provide art education while building cultural enrichment for the Brookhaven community and its visitors.
