In a news release, the Buckhead Coalition, a chamber-like organization of 100 CEOs serving the community, earlier this month announced details outlining its leadership program, the Diplomatic Leadership Corps.

The coalition has sent invitations to neighborhood associations and other Buckhead groups asking for nominations. Self-nominations will also be accepted.

Coalition President Sam Massell attributes the Buckhead community’s success to the “abundance of leadership in every category of service. Buckhead has 40 neighborhood civic groups, 34 houses of worship, 17 parent-teacher associations, 10 service clubs and many miscellaneous nonprofit organizations that all have leaders moving our community forward,” he said. “It stands to reason that we need to introduce young professionals to civic leadership and the values of leadership”.

The corps will consist of up to 25 participants, ages 25 to 30, livin within Buckhead’s 28 square-mile boundary. Those invited to participate in the program will receive a one-day introduction to civic/political and volunteerism service at the coalition office (3340 Peachtree Road at Tower Place 100, Suite 560) and DoubleTree Hotel (3342 Peachtree Road), four days of introduction to adaptive business leadership by Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business in Tower Place 200 (3348 Peachtree Road), and an afternoon reception (at a venue to be announced), all at no charge to participants.

Although the program has a budget approaching $80,000, the books, lectures, meals, materials and membership identification are all being provided pro bono, mostly through the civic contributions of the Robinson College. The program is scheduled to run June 10 through 14.
