Chiropractic Healthcare of Buckhead will celebrate its 20th anniversary this weekend, and founder Bruce Salzinger could not be more excited.

“It’s an incredibly proud achievement,” he said. “I started from dead scratch zero. I was fortunate to find that location [405 Pharr Road]. I was in the same location the whole 20 years and was able to start a following. [Other keys to success are] being active in community affairs and making it affordable and available.”

Saturday, the clinic will celebrate its anniversary with a party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will include food, drinks and $20 chiropractic adjustments. The event will include a drawing for a grand prize of lifetime chiropractic healthcare. To enter in the drawing, visit www.facebook.com/buckheadchiropractic and “like” the Chiropractic Healthcare of Buckhead fan page.

Residents can also enter for additional chances to win each time they come in the office by “checking in or status update” on Facebook. The more one checks in, the more opportunities to win.

Salzinger, a doctor of chiropractic and a certified chiropractic sports physician, got interested in the industry in 1975, when he was treated for a bilateral sciatic and herniated disk he suffered while skiing.

“After approaching the traditional route, which was all I knew at the time, eventually they wanted to schedule me for surgery because I wasn’t responding to that care. A friend [Mark Silverman], who was going to chiropractic school at the time, suggested I have him look at me. After looking at his way of treating things, his diagnosis was the same, but the treatment was different.”

At the time he lived in Woodbury, Long Island, N.Y., and worked at the National Bolt and Nut Co. in Valley Stream, N.Y., where he spent 15 years, rising to vice president. But in 1989 he decided to become a chiropractor and moved to Atlanta to take classes at Life College in Marietta, now Life University.

“When I came down here, I had a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old,” he said of his children. “Over the years, my wife [Judy] made a new career for herself down here and my kids made new friends and we decided to stay.”

The Marietta resident opened his clinic in January 1994 and it has grown to a staff of five and 5,500 patients. “I’m very excited,” Salzinger said of the anniversary.

“Some of these patients have been patients for over 15 years. A lot of them have brought in their family members, aunts, uncles, cousins, up and down the chain. “It’s hard to believe 20 years have gone by. It’s just amazing to me. Any business is a challenge, the up, down, left and right of the economy.”
