Harrison Butker will take the next step in his football career Wednesday when the Westminster standout kicker signs his letter-of-intent with Georgia Tech on National Signing Day.

Butker will be among a number of Westminster athletes who will sign on the dotted line in a ceremony at the school.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound senior kicker begins his college career at Georgia Tech with plenty of momentum after an outstanding senior season in which he successfully converted all 18 of his extra-point kicks and was 12-of-20 in field goal attempts, with only one of his misses coming from less than 48 yards.

He also averaged 68.9 yards per kickoff, with 39 of 42 touchbacks.

Butker was just as successful as a punter, averaging 43.8 yards per punt. A total of 13 of his punts were more than 50 yards.

For his accomplishments, Butker — who helped lead the Wildcats to the second round of the Class AA state playoffs — was named the Georgia Sports Writers Class AA kicker and was a 2013 Maxpreps All-American selection.

He is also ESPN’s third-ranked kicker in the nation for the class of ’13 and was named the prokicker.com Ray Guy Special Teams player of the year.

“By far, he’s the best kicker we ever had,” said Westminster assistant football coach Joe Sturniolo, who coaches the team’s kickers and worked closely with Butker throughout his high school career. “This is an excellent opportunity for him at the next level and it’s great that he’s in Atlanta, because I get to see him play.”

A number of other Westminster athletes will sign with NCAA Division I colleges, including track and field/cross country runner Sahara Fletcher (Ohio State), soccer player Marshall Glover (Stanford), golfers Tripp H’Doubler (Missouri) and Jackson Heazel (Baylor), diver Gaffney Taylor (Tennessee) and rowers Morgan Bean (Harvard) and Leigh Shanor (Boston University).

Other Westminster signees are football player Tripp Riddle and track athlete Sam Allen (both with Rhodes College), baseball players Merritt Huber (Wofford) and Chip Capper (Georgia Perimeter College), soccer player Tanner Kaplan(Wofford) and wrestler Justin Geeza (Wabash College).

Other football players signing letters-of-intent are North Atlanta’s Amon-Ra Clay (Virginia Military Institute) and Riverwood’s Sheldon Doyle (Briar Cliff College).
