Bridget Bellamy exhaled. The at-times topsy-turvy ride was finally over.

Such is life for the mother one of the Peach State’s prized prep football prospects.

National Signing Day 2013 couldn’t have come any sooner.

Davin Bellamy, a defensive stalwart at Chamblee, ended nine-plus months of a frenzied recruiting process when he pledged his services to the University of Georgia.

“Now I can finally breathe,” said the elder Bellamy. “This past year has been busy, somewhat stressful … oh my gosh, just overwhelming.”

Davin had initially decided to play his college ball at Florida State, before rescinding his commitment over concerns of its defensive coaching turnover.

He anticipates vying for UGA’s starting outside linebacker spot sooner rather than later.

“I plan on going in there and competing [from Day 1],” Bellamy said. “If I go in there and do what I’m capable of doing, I should be on the field early.”

He has reasons for such optimism. Scouts representing a crush of universities — Bellamy stopped counting at 35 scholarship offers — fawned over the blue chipper’s skill set and upside.

For Bridget, a Special Education teacher, this day turned out to be well worth the wait.

“It’s just an overwhelming feeling to see my child … put himself in a position to achieve his lifelong dream, she said.

“I’m just elated … can’t put it into words.”
