With a 71-57 loss to Lithia Springs Dec. 15, the Chapel Hill boys’ basketball team is 0-6 for the season, but head coach Lee Wilson, said he wanted the beginning of the season to by this way.

“We’re still in tune-up mode. It’s been a bumpy first month. We don’t have lots of experience, but we have talent.

“It just takes time…I wanted it to be tough,” said Wilson.

Wilson said his team is still in the preliminary stages of the season and that his team has gotten better every time.

While Wilson said his team does not have lots of experience, he said it would be wrong to say they are young, as he has seven seniors on a roster of 13 players; they simply lack much varsity playing time. He also has three sophomores playing up and getting some varsity minutes.

Six-foot-2 senior shooting guard Jarmarius Turner, “has more varsity experience than anyone” according to Martin.

“We expect consistent scoring from him and we look to him to lead,” Martin said.

Even though Turner is sure to get some minutes, Martin said his team does not have a set starting line-up.

“Every game has different starters. We’re always rotating five in and five out; keep their legs fresh. It just depends on the defense,” said Martin.

With this type of lineup, Martin said once all the pieces falls into place for his team, they will be “difficult to scout.” At this point, he is just making sure everyone gets “good playing time.”

“We have a different philosophy this year. We don’t have a 20 point average player, but we’re athletic and have a deep bench,” martin said.

Over the Winter break, the Panthers will be competing in the Carroll County Christmas Tournament Dec. 20 through 22.

Region play will kick off for the Panthers Jan. 4 as they face off against Douglass. The new year will bring nothing but region match-ups, with one exception, that’s when Martin said his team should start seeing some wins.

“All the region games will be manageable,” said Martin.
