Some churches have different themes, and there can be overlap of themes between them. Three themes for this summer include “Hay Day,” “Colossal Coaster World” and “The Mighty God.”
Northwest Christian Church is hosting the Hay Day themes Sunday through Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The church is located at 3737 Dallas Acworth Hwy. NW in Acworth.
Hay Day is a farm theme, which emphasizes Jesus as friend, said Kellie Dailey, children’s director at Northwest.
The past two years the church has had classes for preschool only, but this year it will be open to preschool and elementary school students.
“We pull out all the stops for the preschoolers,” she said.
Dailey said they focus on the preschool age because they do not know of any church that does.
Students will be learning about the resurrection of Jesus and the story of Zacchaeus, a tax collector mentioned in the Bible’s book of Luke.
There will be about 60 volunteers, some being high school and middle school students from the church, she said.
“We always feel our volunteers have as much fun as the kids do,” Dailey said.

First Baptist Church of Dallas, at 401 Main St. in Dallas, is hosting the Colossal Coaster World theme Monday through June 7 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The theme verse is 2 Timothy 1:7, and the motto is “Facing Fear, Trusting God,” said children’s director Gayle Coombs.
She said, the church is planning for 200 children. They will have classes for 4-year-olds to students that just have completed sixth grade.
“We have a new focus this year, and our focus is to reach the neighborhoods of [those who do not attend church],” she said.
To invite those families church members have been going door to door handing out flyers, said Administrative Assistant Emme Worthy.

The medieval theme of The Mighty God is hosted by New Life Baptist Church, at 496 Bobo Road in New Hope, Sunday through Thursday, with a family night Friday at 7 p.m. where families can preregister. The Sunday session is from 6 to 8 p.m. and the Monday through Thursday sessions are from 7 to 9 p.m.
Classes range from “birth to adults,” said director Tony McAdams. Jeremiah 32:17-18 are the theme verses.
“The lessons are all based on the life of Moses,” he said.
