Cosmetic surgery center next to Vantage Point condos approved

A new cosmetic surgery center will be locating to Haynes Bridge Road, near Rainwater Drive.

At Monday’s city council meeting, Alpharetta council members approved the plan after tabling it at the May 27 meeting, where several residents of the nearby Vantage Point condominiums said they had not been informed about the 15,000-square-foot project.

Because the applicants were requesting a variance in the buffer length, they are required by city code to let the surrounding communities know about their plans for the project.

However, the president of the Vantage Point homeowners association, Ron Deemer, said he knew about the plans and has been in favor of them, saying the medical center would increase the aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood. The property being built upon is heavily wooded and what Deemer referred to as an “eyesore.”

He continued by saying he and the applicant have negotiated a deal so that the owners of the cosmetic center will provide landscaping for the area “indefinitely.”

The HOA president also said he was surprised to hear that members of the community had not heard about the plan but “at least 90 percent” of them should be aware of it now.

“Communication — that is what went astray last time,” Deemer said.

“Overall, we think [the medical center plan] is an excellent thing representing the community.”

“However, of course, homeowners are entitled to their own opinion.”

Resident Gary Johnson also spoke in favor of the plan.

Elaine Hedden, who also lives in the Vantage Point condominiums, expressed her concerns that the project is too big for the lot.

“It appears you’re trying to put 10 pounds of stuff in a five pound bag,” she said.

She also said she would not be in favor of the office building linking to the neighborhood’s sewer system.

Hedden said as residents, it can be difficult to understand the process of how these types of projects get approved.

Council approved the project 7-0 with conditions saying the buffer between the two properties must be heavily landscaped and that brick and stone exteriors must be used on the building.
