Council approves recreation and parks fee increases

Some recreation and parks fees in Alpharetta will see an increase next March.

City Council members approved the changes, which affect tennis teams and equestrian activities, at their Monday meeting.

According to the department’s director Mike Perry, the fee adjustments will provide additional revenue to offset the maintenance and operation expenses associated with the tennis facilities and the equestrian center.

A study conducted by the parks department earlier this year indicated fees for tennis teams were significantly lower than fees charged by nearby municipalities, while tennis court rentals were slightly lower. The fees had been the same since 2002.

A comparison was also done on the fee structure for Wills Park Equestrian Center rentals and amenities, and staff found that some fees were lower than other equestrian centers and some were similar. The equestrian center fees had not changed since 2006.

The estimated increase in revenues for tennis team fees and court rentals is $5,000 annually, and the estimated increase in revenues for equestrian center rentals is about $75,000 annually.

The approved fee changes are as follows:

Open tennis team fee increased from $150 per season to $250 per season for unlimited home matches.

55 and up tennis team fee increased from $100 per season to $150 per season for unlimited home matches.

A practice court fee of $100 for seven weeks of tennis team practice (two courts for two hours, once per week) will be implemented.

Court rental fee increased from $3.75 per hour to $4 per hour for residents and ALTA/USTA members.

Court rental fee increased from $5 per hour to $6 per hour for non-residents and non-ALTA/USTA members.

Equestrian center covered arena daily rental fee increased from $450 to $600 for horse shows and $750 for dog shows.

Outdoor arena daily rental fee increased from $200 to $350.

Shavings fee increased from $6 to $7 per bale.

Grounds fee increased from $10 to $19 per day.

RV hookup fee increased from $20 to $25 per day.

Stalls increased from $17, plus $10 for additional days, to $19, plus $10 for additional days.
