The Planning Committee proposed to the council the 22 tracts of land to be annexed into the city, and once annexed immediately rezoned.
Council members explained the city map had holes in it where land was not in the city limits. This caused much confusion for the police and other city workers on what area they had jurisdiction, they said.
“The city was like Swiss cheese,” said Mayor Boyd Austin.
Now with the islands annexed it will clean up the city limits, which will help the city workers better serve the residents of Dallas, he said.
After all the requests were brought before the public hearing, the council voted to approve the annexations and the rezonings which had been proposed by the Planning Committee.
The 22 properties were annexed and rezoned, with unanimous votes from the council.
