After a review of DeKalb County Emergency Operations and the current weather conditions, interim CEO Lee May has directed the closure of county government offices Thursday.

This includes county administrative offices, including parks and recreation facilities, senior centers, water billing offices, recorders court and other administrative divisions will be closed Thursday. There will be no sanitation collections on Thursday. Payroll functions will occur without delay and payments to vendors will occur as regularly scheduled.

“I am very happy to report that most people have chosen to stay at home and not get on the roadways. That has helped our emergency operations efforts immensely," said May. “But it’s not over yet. We have more dangerous weather ahead, so please continue to stay put, as we expect our county roads to remain impassable due to the ice. DeKalb Public Safety and public works employees will continue to work around the clock until the inclement weather subsides.”

Power outages can be reported to Georgia Power at (888) 660-5890 for residential customers, and (888) 655-5888 for commercial customers. Snapping Shoals EMC customers can call (770) 786-3484, press option “1”.

County residents are urged to use extreme caution and check their local news for updates regarding severe weather. Tips for getting through cold weather safely and a listing for non-emergency numbers for various county departments are available at www.dekalbcountyga.gov.
