Columbia senior Maurice Rivers, who averaged 13 points and nine rebounds this season, will play for Team Hartry in the DeKalb County Senior All-Star Classic.
On Thursday at Tucker High, the best senior basketball players in DeKalb county will step on the floor one last time in the Senior All-Star Classic.

Starting at 6 p.m., Team Potter will face Team Jackson. Tucker girls’ coach Robin Potter will head the squad with her own players (Erykah Davenport, Tori Robinson, Naima Jackson and Nuba Jackson) and others from Arabia Mountain, Lakeside, McNair, Miller Grove, M.L. King, Southwest DeKalb and Stephenson.

Redan girls’ coach Jerry Jackson will direct the other team with his players (Brea Elmore, Destini McClary, Jada Byrd and Jamese Abney) and others from Cedar Grove, Chamblee, Columbia, Druid Hills and Stone Mountain.

As a result, fans will likely get to see a matchup of the Class AAAAA state champions against the Class AAAA champs even though defense will not be the focus.

Davenport, who will play at Miami next year, led the Lady Tigers with averages of 14 points and eight rebounds a game. Elmore, who will attend Memphis next year, was one of the Lady Raiders’ best scorers and 3-point shooters.

Other players displaying their talent on this level for the final time will be Columbia’s Yaktavia Hickson, who averaged 20 points this past season, and Chamblee’s Candace Rhodes, who averaged 12 points and three steals.

Following this contest, members of Team Hartry and Team Gilleylen will occupy the floor, providing plenty of highlight worthy finishes and dunks.

Tucker boys’ coach James Hartry will lead his players (Jon Dunmyer, Davante Meadows and TJ Thomas) and others from Arabia Mountain, Columbia, Dunwoody, Lakeside, M.L. King, Stone Mountain, Southwest DeKalb and Towers.

Stephenson boys’ coach Curtis Gilleylen will guide his players (Montez Sweat, Juwan Henderson and Delmont Walton) and others from Cedar Grove, Chamblee, Clarkston, Lithonia, McNair, Miller Grove and Redan.

DeKalb’s top scorers such as Paul Jackson (M.L. King), Xavier Trammell (Clarkston), Curtis Wilson (Arabia Mountain) and Shun Jones (Dunwoody) will also be in action.
