In a news release, the Georgia Department of Transportation Thursday announced Deering Road in Buckhead reopened Thursday as GDOT completed the project to replace the bridge at the Amtrak station.

The street is a major connecting route between Northside Drive and Peachtree Road. It had been closed since January and was supposed to reopen in July, but the project was delayed a month, likely due to the large amount of rain the city has had this year.

“We are glad to finish this one and get the roadway open again. We opened it around 10 this morning,” GDOT Metro District Construction Engineer Shun Pringle said in a statement. “It was a challenging project but I know that commuters who have regularly used that road in the past will be happy.”

In other news, this weekend’s work scheduled on Interstate 285 between Riverside Drive and Roswell Road in Sandy Springs has been cancelled due to rain in the forecast, GDOT spokesman Mark McKinnon said in an email Friday.
