Ann Bergstrom has resigned her longstanding position as executive director of the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell.

The nature center sent out a brief update last Monday stating that Bergstrom had announced her resignation and that board member Lou Tabickman would be filling in until an interim director is named.

“The board of trustees of the Chattahoochee Nature Center would like to thank Ann for having provided strong leadership and direction that helped bring the nature center to its current level of success,” the email said.

“We value and appreciate Ann’s dedication and contributions to the cature center and we extend our best wishes for her future success.”

Tabickman declined to comment on whether or not the resignation was expected, saying only, “the facts are that Ann resigned. People will start rumors no matter what we say.”

Bergstrom took the director’s job in late 1999. She has been credited with stabilizing its operations and greatly improving its finances.

Tabickman has been a board member for three years and was president of Chatt Pack, a guild established to promote the nature center, for two years prior.

Tabickman said he will oversee operations at the nature center during a transition period of searching for a longer term interim director who would, in turn, serve until a permanent director is recruited.

“We have begun a search for the permanent director which is being spearheaded by one of our board members, who owns an executive recruiting company,” he said.

“I have met with all staff members of CNC and feel that there are no urgent issues and am confident that business will continue as usual until a permanent executive director is hired.

“We have an outstanding staff at CNC who will handle the transition seamlessly. They are all highly motivated and passionate about the nature center and will continue, without interruption, to deliver our programs and execute our mission.”
