During a recent trip to Warsaw, Poland, Dr. Michael Randell, a gynecologic surgeon at Northside Hospital in Sandy Springs, performed Poland’s first CO2 laser laparoscopic endometriosis surgery. Randell, along with Dr. Maciej Pliszkiewicz of St. Sophia Specialist Hospital in Warsaw, operated on a patient who had Stage III endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a very common women’s health disorder which occurs in up to 10 percent of all women worldwide and up to 50 percent of women who experience pelvic pain. March is Endometriosis Awareness Month.

The surgery was broadcast to a conference room at the hospital where several surgeons from the area, who earlier in the morning listened to Randell present a lecture on laparoscopic and robotic surgery, watched him perform the operation.
