Roswell’s historic town square is going to the dogs Sunday.

“In celebration of the publishing of our new book, ‘Rucker, the Lost Country Dog,’ we are having a day full of fun, contests, exhibits, food and more for dogs to enjoy a Sunday afternoon in the park with their families,” said Judy Meer, president of the Roswell Historical Society.

The society is sponsoring Rucker Fest from noon to 5 p.m. The dog-centric event, in honor of the fictional Rucker, the society’s new mascot, will feature several activities for pooches and their owners.

For a registration fee of $5 per entry, there will be a Rucker look-alike contest, dog costume, obedience, pet-owner look-alike and pet photo.

Registration forms are available at the Roswell Historical Society office or on the organization’s website. Registrations will also be accepted on the day of the event.

Prizes donated by local pet businesses will be awarded for each of the categories.

“Rucker: The Lost Country Dog,” which tells the story of Rucker’s journey through Roswell, will be available for sale at the event, signed by the author, Elaine DeNiro.

Nonprofit agencies will be in attendance to share information about their organizations. Canine Assistants and Happy Tails will both have booths.

Angels Amongst Us Pet Rescue and the Atlanta Humane Society will have pets available for adoption. Pet vendors, food trucks, and face painting will round out the festivities.

All proceeds from Rucker Fest benefit the Roswell Historical Society.

“I hope everyone joins us at the Roswell Square on Oct. 21,” Meer said. “And pets, don’t forget you have to keep your owners on a leash.”
