The commission, in its first meeting of the new year last week, approved a request from Douglas County Purchasing Director Bill Peacock to approve an ordinance which increased the minimum purchase amount his department could make, without the administrator’s approval, to $2,500.
The old ordinance limited minimum purchases Peacock’s department could approve to $1,000.
“Approval of this request would increase the efficiency within the purchasing department and allow us to more quickly turn around the purchasing requisitions received by our department,” Peacock told commissioners.
County purchases of $10,000 or more would come before the commission and must receive approval by at least three members, Peacock said.
District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider asked Peacock if purchasing requisitions coming before his office still had to be budgeted and he assured her they did.
“If the purchase requisition is not budgeted, the department would have to come back before the commission and provide the board a budget amendment,” Peacock said.
Commission Chairman Tom Worthan also received an assurance from Peacock that any purchasing requisition of $500 or more would still go through the competitive bid process.
In addition, the commission voted to set the candidate qualifying fees for five county positions on the ballot this year.
The fees adopted were $526.30 for commission candidates, $2,173.02 for chief magistrate judge, $4,171.07 for state court judge, $3,128.30 for solicitor and $577.20 for school board members
