Douglas County government and courthouse offices were scheduled to open Friday at 8 a.m. following the ice and snow storm of the past two days, the government reported on its web site.

"The number of problems were manageable throughout the event, thanks to citizens staying off the roads and allowing county DOT crews to keep roads treated and maintenance crews to quickly remove downed trees and take care [of] other problem areas," the web site stated.

Power outages varied throughout the event with a little more than 5,000 maximum outages. As of today at 3 p.m., approximately 1,000 Greystone Power customers were still without power.

No residents were in warming shelters this afternoon, it stated.

Road conditions will deteriorate tonight as the temps drop below freezing and everything wet and icy will re-freeze before tomorrow morning's commute, it stated.

"All roads are passable, but expect hazardous driving conditions as [melted] water runoff refreezes into black ice over Friday night. Remember to keep a safe driving distance and reduce driving speeds to ensure safe stopping distances.

"Falling tree limbs will continue to be a concern for the travelling public. Increased awareness is advised for these icy conditions and the potential debris on the roadways while driving.

"If you do not need to get out, please stay off the roads tonight."

The Douglas County School System is closed for winter break though Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The Douglas County DOT had a 25-employee rotation organizing and working roads. E911 had four shifts totaling 25 workers.

The Emergency Operations Center rwas fully activated with the following emergency support functions: Transportation, Communications, Firefighting, Emergency Management, Public Health and Medical Services, Public Safety and Security, and External Affairs, the site stated.

All WellStar hospitals were open today. However, imaging centers, outpatient facilities and WellStar Medical Group physician offices were closed today, the company reported on its Facebook page.

Urgent Care, WellStar Medical Group and outpatient care facilities were set to open Friday no later than 10 a.m., the company reported.

Those needing WellStar Medical Group assistance should call their doctors to see if they will offer Saturday and Sunday hours, WellStar reported. For more information, visit www.wellstar.org.
