Two state education groups, the Georgia School Boards Association and the Vision for Public Education in Georgia, have invited Douglas County Board of Education chairwoman Janet Kelley to serve their organizations.

Kelley will serve on the steering committee for the Vision for Public Education in Georgia Project and on the school boards association’s board chair advisory council.

Vision Executive Director Stanley W. DeJarnett said, “Local school board members from all across Georgia have led the work of the Vision for Public Education in Georgia Project since it began in 2009.”

He said 19 local board members served on the original committee, which is now being expanded and includes Kelley.

Additional partner organizations in Georgia are now adding their support to the Vision project. Its first meeting for this school year will be Monday.

The organization’s goal is that public education in Georgia will provide all children an equitable and excellent education that prepares them for college, career and life. The seven components of the vision include: early learning and student success; teaching and learning; teaching and learning resources; human and organizational capital; governance, leadership and accountability; culture, climate and organizational efficacy; and financial resources. Kelley also has been invited by Executive Director Sis Henry to serve on the association board advisory council.

“Your advice on issues facing school boards across the state will be invaluable,” said Henry in her invitation to Kelley.

The council’s first meeting will be Oct. 15.
