The city of Dunwoody is partnering with the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts for a new perimeter park.

The location of the proposed park runs along Perimeter Center Parkway between Hammond Drive and Perimeter Center West, which is behind Perimeter Mall.

“This project represents the PCIDs vision to create meaningful and sustainable green space and a signature urban park within the central Perimeter area,” said improvement districts Program Manager Jennifer Harper.

“About five acres of park area will be created as part of this effort, transforming the current utilitarian drainage facility and underused land under the MARTA tracks adjacent to Perimeter Mall into a focal point.”

Because the master plan is in development, construction funding for the project has not been identified.

Two public meetings — Tuesday and May 29 — will provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about the master planning process and provide their input. “Since this park will serve not only the corporate community but also the residential communities of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Brookhaven, it is important that these meetings include public participation,” said improvement districts Marketing Manager Kate Sloan. Although the amenities of the park are yet to be determined, improvement districts President Yvonne Williams said stakeholders in the project are interested in seeing the space become “a greenspace that’s very flexible.”

“There may be sculpture features, seating areas, high-quality bike facilities or water features,” she said. “Right now all of the planning is coming together and public input will allows us to share ideas.”

Williams said the park is an important project because it will play a vital role in the area’s shift towards becoming a 24-hour market with true live-work-walk-play amenities.
