Both Dutchtown and Eagle’s Landing suffered close losses last week and only one team is guaranteed to bounce back and avoid an 0-2 record in sub-region 4A-AAAA when they meet this Friday at Eagle’s Landing Stadium.

The Bulldogs began region play with a 31-24 overtime setback to Locust Grove during Week 7.

“We just couldn’t beat them and the officials,” Dutchtown coach Kevin Jones said.

According to Jones, Matthew Daniels ran for 210 yards and Brandon Robertson rushed for more than 100 yards.

On the same night, the Golden Eagles turned a 21-point deficit into just five points before falling 35-30 to Stockbridge. Bradley Dewberry passed for 201 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another.

“He is blessed to have two very good running backs and also three very good receivers and I don’t think his receivers get enough credit for how good they are,” Jones said. “They get the job done. When he throws it up there they go get it.”

Warren Wright made nine catches for 101 yards and fellow senior Tyler Guice hauled in four receptions for 63 yards and two TDs. Corey Holloway rushed for 82 yards and a score.

“What is really impressive with those kids, not just Dewberry as a quarterback, but the fact that they play both sides of the ball and they are going 110 miles per hour each side of the ball, trying to win,” Jones said. “In this new day and age of high school football you don't see a whole lot of kids going both ways for a whole game.

“They are very good at it,” Jones said. “There is a toughness element that they have and it’s going to be tough for us to address all of those things. But we are definitely going to roll up our sleeves and give them all that we got.”

Last season, Dutchtown cruised to a 55-22 victory over Eagle’s Landing to win its first game in three meetings with the Golden Eagles. But this Week 8 matchup should be a back-and-forth battle with plenty of scoring.

“We are definitely going to roll up our sleeves and give them all that we got,” Jones said.
