East Cobb Yankees Wins Youth World Series

The East Cobb Yankees won the Connie Mack World Series for the sixth time Aug. 9 in Farmington, N.M. The Yankees finished the tournament undefeated in five games, including a victory over the Southern California Renegades in the finals. The Yankees finished the summer with an overall record of 54-4 and were ranked as the top team in the nation for a second consecutive year by Perfect Game USA.

Several standouts from the north Fulton area were on the team including Series’ MVP and Johns Creek alumnus Brandon Gold, who will attend Georgia Tech, along with Gold Glove winner and Milton High School student Ryan Gridley. Eagles’ alum Payton Smith was named to the All-Tournament team and will attend Appalachian State in the fall.

Matt Phillips of Milton was on the Yankees team along with Northview student Jason Delay and Johns Creek Gladiators Matthew Gorset, Connor Jones and Cody Hardage.
