Master Quilter and Fine Artist Patricia Montgomery is the featured artist in this year’s exhibition entitled “Out of the Box – Art Quilt.” Montgomery’s created this feature exhibition of 14 artistic and abstract quilts for the Ebony Stitchers Quilt Exhibition. Her quilts will be showcased at the opening reception Thursday at 7 p.m., during her artist talk and trunk show. On Friday, Montgomery will conduct an all-day thread painting class to provide instruction in her technique. This will be a great opportunity to explore creative techniques that can be used in your quilts.

Master Quilter and Artist Hollis Chatelain will also join the exhibition as an instructor teaching two separate six-hour workshops and a lecture about her life in Africa. In her Influences of Africa presentation, Hollis will share how her many years of living in Africa influenced and cultivate her artwork. In her Painting with Dyes workshop, she will show participants how to paint with dyes, a technique she has used in her award-winning quilts. In Quilt Line as a Third Design Aspect, Hollis will hold a process class where participants will learn how to consider and use quilting as a design element in their quilts. Learn more about Hollis at www.hollisart.com.

This year’s Ebony Stitchers exhibition will provide a rare opportunity to meet and take classes with professional Quilt Masters. Classes will be conducted Friday, Saturday and Sunday — including beginner as well as advanced classes. The exhibition will also host the Guild’s general exhibition with a special exhibit entitled, the “Men Quilt Also” featuring male quilters, curated by Ray Barreras.

The opening reception is ticketed.
